Selecting the Correct Label or Ribbon for Your Zebra® Printer
While there are thousands of labels and ribbons for Zebra Printers, there are some basic things to keep in mind. Desktop models, such as the LP or TLP Series Printers must use a 1" core. If you have a printer that model that starts with "LP" (such as LP2844) you use a Direct Thermal Label. These labels always have a 1" core with an outside diameter from 4"-5". Labels for this printer can be found on our Core 1"-OD 4" OR Core 1"-OD 5" pages
If you're printer starts with a "TLP" (such as TLP2824) you can use either a direct thermal label or thermal transfer label. Check inside your printer and see if there is a ribbon near the print head. If there is ribbon order thermal transfer labels found on
Core 1"-OD 4" OR Core 1" - OD 5" pages.
Tabletop printers use a 3" core label roll with an 8" outside diameter. Tabletop printers can print or either direct thermal labels or thermal transfer labels (depending on how your printer is setup). Again, if you're not sure, open the printer up and look for a ribbon near the print head. (ot is on 2 spools and looks like black cellophane). If you see a ribbon, choose your label size from any of the labels listed on our 3" core -8" OD page.

These desktop units use a THERMAL TRANSFER LABEL with 1" core size and up to a 5" outside diameter. The maximum label width is 2.36".

TLP Series printers may also require a THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBON. If you need a ribbon, you can choose from a general purpose wax ribbon, good for most standard applications (carton or product labeling). You can also use an enhanced wax/resin ribbon, which provides better scratch and smear resistance. There are resin ribbons for the ultimate quality print and resistance to smearing and chemicals

These printers are DIRECT THERMAL. That means they do not need a ribbon. They use a Direct Thermal Label. You can select your label size from any direct thermal label with a 1" core and up to a 5" outside diameter. The maximum label width for LP Models 2824, 2824Z, and H2824Z is 2.36".

These models use a 3" roll core size with an 8" maximum outside diameter. They can use either a THERMAL TRANSFER or DIRECT THERMAL Label. If you purchase a thermal transfer label you will need to purchase thermal transfer ribbons also.
While all of the tabletop models use a 3" core and a maximum outside roll diameter of 8", each model has a maximum label width it can handle.
