Slow Tape Feed

Almost exclusively, slow tape feed is due to worn Motor Brushes- MotorBrushKit (Ref ND105BXK) or a defective Motor - MotorAssy  (Ref ND105X)..

Before Any Maintenance Procedure - UNPLUG THE MACHINE

Check Tape Feed First !

You should first check to make sure the tape is not binding. Check inside the Tape Basket to make sure the Tape Guides are not "pinching" the tape roll. Check the Upper Tape Plate - 700UTP (Ref FM12EL). Does it slide out easily? It should. Over time, they can get bent and bind down on the tape. If you notice that the Upper Tape Plate is bent,

replace it.

If the tape is not binding, next check the Motor Brushes.

Replacing Motor Brushes -see Service Figure 9 below

1. Remove Water Tank & Bottle

2. Remove Motor & Chain Cover (total 3 screws)

3. Towards the back of the motor, on the top & bottom of the motor are 2

black plastic screws caps. Using a slotted screw driver, remove the caps.

4. You'll see the top of the motor brushes- a small copper or steel circular plate.

5. The motor brushes are spring loaded and should "pop up" when the black

plastic cap is removed. If they don't, the tip of a paper clip can be used to

    pull up the motor brush.

6. If the carbon tip is less then 1/4" - replace both brushes.

HELPFUL HINT:    When replacing the motor brushes, stand the machine upright, place a cloth under the motor, and gently tap the side of the motor with a pair of pliers. The old carbon will fall out. This keeps carbon from building up in the motor.. An air hose can also be used to blow the carbon dust out.

Replacing Defective Motor - see Service Figure 9 below

1. Remove Water Tank & Bottle

2. Remove Motor & Chain Cover (total 3 screws)

3. The motor bracket has 3 bolts. Remove the nuts, but leave the bolts on the frame.

4. Remove the green ground wire on motor

5. Remove the motor chain.

6. Remove both electrical caps and remove old motor wires.

7. Mount the chain on the new motor

8. Mount the motor on the 3 bolts on the frame

9. Replace & tighten the bolts

10. Replace green ground wire

11. Connect the motor wires and replace the electrical caps

CHECKING MOTOR CHAIN TENSION

The motor chain should not be pulled too tight. The chain should be slightly loose (a little slack). To adjust, look on the opposite side of the motor. You'll see 2 bolts (555-E638) on the inside of the Motor Bracket (bolts will be facing frame). Loosen the bolts and move the motor back or forward to adjust chain tension.
